RBS 9.0 | ESCARTEEN SISTERS
Escarteen Sisters is a string quartet in a duo; two sisters, a viola, and a cello. They sing and play at the same time, using the instrument to accompany the voice and vice versa. Their work is characterized by the intimate and raw interaction between two sisters who have been making music together since childhood. The multiculturalism in the family is the spine of the sister's artistic work: half flemish, half Spanish, born in Mexico and Belgium. In the compositions of the second album and the upcoming one, you can hear chamber-like textures with folk-inspired melodies, African rhythms, and jazz harmonies combined with original texts sung in different languages.
With their debut album “Escarteen Sisters” (2018) and second album “Caure Sistingut” (2024) they toured around Europe and Middle East. Some of the venues or showcases where they performed in 2024 are Jazz I am Barcelona, Jamboree Barcelona, de Kaap in Oostende, and Roode Bioscoop in Amsterdam.
The Escarteen Sisters are winners of the First Price of “Acoustic Music Barcelona Awards” (2018), also won the Best Arrangement and Best Interpretation in “Andrea Parodi Contest” (2023) and were finalists in the competition “Jazz Alghero” (2019). The two sisters collaborated with Silvia Perez Cruz Marco Mezquida, Guillem Roma, Julien Padovani, and Loek van den Berg among others.
