RBS 9.0 | REMPETRONICA
REMPETRONICA is a programme of deconstructed and reinterpreted Greek Rempetika (1920s-1960s) and traditional Cypriot folk songs, performed by George Demetriou (CY) and Alkistis Misouli (GR/CY). Using an arsenal of electronics, live effects and prepared instruments, the duo weaves together drone music, modes of the Middle East /Mediterranean, wailing vocals and punk-infused electric guitar and viola. The duo has been active in Amsterdam already for two years, performing concerts around the city and exploring their connection to the music of their roots through their own musical and cultural language. For this performance, the duo wants to invite Cypriot folk singer, Paris Paraschos, as a special guest. Paris is one of the most active and prominent folk singers of the island with an open mind for experimentation and a vast knowledge and specialization in Folk Song, having studied Traditional Music in University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki.
