The RIVER presents Place of Peace
An evening dedicated to Peace. Songs, improvisations, poetry and a story. Five members of the band The RIVER will play a first set. The second set will feature musical guests and a storyteller. All lyrics are in English. The evening's title comes from a beautiful song by Seattle singer-songwriter JR Rhodes, featuring Wayne Horvitz on piano: https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=1VVPIQra1wA
There will be posters available from the Museum for Peace and Nonviolence. These may be taken to be hung anywhere in the city. They are designed to encourage nuance and connection. https://vredessite.nl/nieuws/ peace_2196.html
The RIVER this evening is: Lily Kiara (guitar, vocals), Michael Vatcher (drums, percussion), Felicity Provan (cornet, vocals), Joost Buis (lap steel guitar, trombone), Paul Pallesen (el. guitar)
Guests are:
Jimmy Robinson, virtuoso guitarist and songwriter from New Orleans. Jimmy has played several times with musicians from Amsterdam and The RIVER. Lily Kiara toured America with him. Michael Vatcher played with him in New Orleans. http://jimmyrobinsonmusic.com
Irina Koriakova tells a story. She is part of the core of storytelling stage Mezrab.
Rozemarie Heggen unparalleled double bass player, ventures into a duet with Joost Buis (trombone).
"Folk and contemporary improvisation are ... drawn together in unconventional ways that break the pattern of expectations each time. Songs bubble up from improvisation or vice versa; each time the river meanders in new directions making 'The Swim Sessions' as a whole as elusive as it is enchanting."
